For the first time in four contests, the Mount Ida College
men’s soccer team suffered defeat, as it fell to the
University of New England 2-0 this afternoon.
Freshman Ryan Tarr (Hermon, Maine) netted both goals to boost the
Nor’easters to their first win of the 2006 campaign.
Tarr’s first marker came just 12:34 into the contest, when he
used a feed from sophomore Brad Carlson (Scarborough, Maine) to
beat Mount Ida sophomore goalkeeper Brian Leighton
(Turner, Maine/Leavitt Area).
He then tallied off a feed from classmate Brian Cummings (Bow,
N.H.) in the 70th minute to ice things for the hosts.
Leighton stopped five shots but saw his three-match shutout streak
come to an end. The freshman duo of Jon Mango (Park Ridge, N.J.)
and Derek Poulin (Scarborough, Maine) split time in net, combining
for four saves. Mango turned away one Mount Ida shot en route to
claiming his first collegiate victory.
Mount Ida (3-2-0, 0-0-0 NAC) returns home to face Daniel Webster
College in a non-conference clash on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. The
University of New England (1-2-1, 0-2-0 CCC) will also be in action
on Wednesday, when it hosts the Wentworth Institute of Technology
for a Commonwealth Coast Conference tilt starting at 6:30 p.m.
