Behind a stellar defensive effort, the Mount Ida College
men’s soccer team picked up a 1-0 victory over non-conference
foe Eastern Nazarene College this afternoon in Quincy, Mass. It was
the Mustangs third straight shutout, each by scores of 1-0.
Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Leighton (Turner,
Maine/Leavitt Area) made nine saves en route to his
fifth career shutout. He has not allowed a goal in 297 minutes,
surrendering just two over Mount Ida’s first four
contests.
The lone goal of the match came off the foot of sophomore
Brandon Chuba (Wallingford, Conn./Mark T.
Sheehan) in the 27th minute. After collecting a loose
ball in the goalie box, the midfielder blasted a shot past Eastern
Nazarene sophomore netminder Steven Bracale (Pennsville,
N.J./Pennsville Memorial). It proved to be the match-winner, as
both squads went scoreless over the game’s final 53:55.
Bracale finished with seven saves for the Crusaders, who remain
winless thus far this season.
Mount Ida (3-1-0, 0-0-0 NAC) will be off until Monday, when it
travels to the University of New England for an out-of-league tilt
beginning at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Nazarene (0-4-1, 0-0-0 CCC) hosts
the University of Massachusetts Boston on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.
