June 5, 2013 (Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College athletic department is pleased to announce the hiring of Benjamin Davis as the new head men’s basketball coach as well as athletic administrator, effective immediately.
Ben joins the Mustangs after a two year stint as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Division I Siena College. While at Siena, he was responsible for assisting in all areas of the national recruiting effort, while aiding in the development and implementation of all game and practice planning. Under his leadership, he helped the Siena Saints reach the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) semifinal game in 2012 and a quarterfinal appearance in 2013.
Prior to his arrival at Siena, he served as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Division II Stonehill College of the Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10), where he was the national recruiting coordinator. His efforts in that capacity were quite successful as he was able to develop four classes that exceeded 20 victories per season. While at Stonehill, Ben helped lead the Skyhawks to an overall record of 67-22, as well as NCAA Division II tournament appearances in 2009, 2010, and 2011 while capturing the regular season conference championship and a #16 National Ranking in 2010.
Ben's first coaching experience was at Division III Nichols College as the Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach.
Davis graduated from Wheaton College (MA) in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science. Ben attained his Master’s Degree from Endicott College in 2012 with a Master of Education in Athletic Administration. While at Wheaton, Davis was a four year letter winner and team captain for the men’s basketball program during his senior year. Davis helped lead Wheaton to two consecutive ECAC Championships in 2005 and 2006.
Davis said, “I am thrilled to be named the head men’s basketball coach at Mount Ida College, and I would like to thank Athletic Director Matthew Burke, the search committee members, and the college’s administration for providing me with this incredible opportunity. This is an exciting time to be associated with the Mount Ida athletics program, and I hope to be able to build a program at Mount Ida that the college, alumni, and community can be proud of.”
“Mount Ida provides an excellent opportunity for our student-athletes to be engaged as leaders in the classroom, within the community, and on the basketball court, and I am extremely excited to help them achieve success in all of these areas.”
Davis currently resides in Marion, Massachusetts.
