HILLERY DUMPS IN 18 POINTS, MUSTANGS FALL TO WILDCATS

Monday, January 30, 2012 (Providence, Rhode Island) - The Mount Ida College men's basketball team dropped their third straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss of the season to hosting Johnson & Wales University Monday evening in Providence, Rhode Island falling by a score of 89-54. 

The Mustangs fall to an overall record of 6-12 slumping to 3-8 in league action while the Wildcats improve to 8-11 for the season with a 7-5 GNAC slate.

Senior captain Travis Hillery (Tyngsboro, MA/Central Catholic) led Mount Ida with 18 points and eight caroms on 7-15 shooting.  Senior captain Joe Cabral (Walpole, MA/Walpole) added 11 points and five boards while junior Jeffrey McNair (Brockton, MA/Brockton) chipped in eight points and five assists.

Johnson & Wales was led by senior Lamonte Thomas (Providence, R.I.) with 29 points, six rebounds and eight assists while senior Mike Harris (Providence, R.I.) had 19 points for the Wildcats.  Junior David Storti (Exeter, R.I.) had a solid all-around game with six points, three rebounds, four steals and three blocks while senior James Folk (Salem, N.H.) was also in double-figures with 19 points and six rebounds in the victory.

Johnson & Wales dominated the action early and had their first double-digit lead on a layup by Storti with 12:55 left in the first half.  The Wildcats continued to build on their lead throughout the stanza and took a commanding 42-20 lead heading into the locker room at halftime.

It was more of the same in the opening stages of the second when JWU used a 10-0 run to open the half and take the 52-20 lead on a three-pointer by Folk with 17:30 remaining in the contest.  The Wildcats then cruised to the 89-54 victory.

The Mustangs will host GNAC foe Norwich University this coming Thursday night with game time slated for 7:00 p.m.
