NEW LONDON, N.H. -- The Mount Ida College field hockey team fell to the hosting Chargers of Colby-Sawyer by a final score of 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon.
Taylor Lincoln (Rye, N.H.) scored the lone tally for the Mustangs in the setback who drop to 9-7 on the year while Colby-Sawyer improves to 11-4.
Sophomore Jordan Teixeira (Exeter, N.H.) and freshman Alie Jones (Cape Neddick, Maine) had two goals apiece for the Chargers while the hosts have now recorded it's third win streak of at least three games this season.
Teixeira opened the scoring 7:41 into the first half when she converted a break away under the Mount Ida goalie.
Jones doubled the Colby-Sawyer lead 52 seconds later after finishing a feed close to the cage from junior Paige Viens (Middlebury, Vt.).
Jones then set up Teixeira in the waning moments of the first half with a nifty pass through the defenders. Teixeira completed the play to score her sixth goal of the season and give the Chargers a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.
In the 49th minute, Jones added an insurance goal in traffic in front of the goal to put the Chargers on top 4-0. The tally was her team best 15th of the season.
Mount Ida found the back of the cage with 1:40 left when freshman Taylor Lincoln (Rye, N.H.) beat the Colby-Sawyer goalie who came out to challenge the play. The goal was Lincoln's sixth of the season.
Colby-Sawyer sophomore Xena Ras (Medfield, Mass.) made five saves and did not allow a goal in 66 minutes, while freshman Hanna Crose (Woodstock Valley, Conn.) allowed one goal and had two saves in the final four minutes. Mount Ida goalie Grace Ryan (Livermore Falls, Maine) finished with nine saves.
The Chargers held a 19-10 advantage in shots, while penalty corners were even at 8-8.
The Chargers will host a regular season finale on Saturday against North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe Husson. Mount Ida drops to 9-7 and will host Anna Maria on Friday for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (NAC) regular season finale.
