NEWTON, Mass. – Taylor Lincoln (Rye, N.H.) and Lexi Minicucci (Westfield, Mass.) each scored twice and Mount Ida College defeated New England College 4-2 in non-conference field hockey action on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
The Mustangs improve to 7-4 on the season with their fourth straight win, setting a new record for consecutive wins as a program and extending their win total record for the program in its third year.
Minicucci and Lincoln scored within six minutes of each other in the second half to break a 2-2 tie after the Pilgrims (3-7) had fought back to tie the game.
Lincoln scored at 12:07 to open the scoring, and then added an insurance goal in the 56th minute for her second and third markers of the year.
Minicucci gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead at 26:13 when she fired into the corner from close range, her second point of the day after assisting on Lincoln's opening goal, a tip-in at the mouth of the cage.
It looked as though the Mustangs, who outshot NEC 21-14 and 10-6 in the first period, would go into the break up two goals, but Abigail Arsenault (High Pine Plains, N.Y.) collected a rebound and fired home her second goal of the season with just over a minute remaining in the first half.
Leah Foster (Greenwich, N.Y.) tied the game for the visitors just before the three-quarter hours mark when she got on the end of the third rebound after two great stops by Mount Ida freshman Grace Ryan (Livermore Falls, Maine), who made five saves in the win.
Minicucci scored the eventual game-winner less than five minutes later off of a corner, where Mount Ida had a 12-10 advantage. The junior midfielder took the feed from Cregan Callahan (Diamond Point, N.Y.) and rocketed home her second goal of the game and eighth of the season.
Junior Michaela Clark (Dorchester, Mass.) made six saves for New England College, who look to snap a four game skid when they host Thomas College on Saturday at 5:00 PM.
Freshman Amandaline Tibbals (Concord, N.H.) played the second half and made one stop in her first collegiate action.
Mount Ida gets a weekend off and heads to Framingham State for a non-conference game on October 6th at 4:00 pm.
