Field Hockey Comes from Behind for Historic GNAC Win

Nashua, N.H. – Mount Ida College scored three unanswered goals to erase a 1-0 deficit and earn a 3-1 win over Rivier University, the first win in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) history for Mount Ida since the program began last season.

With the win, Mount Ida improves to 1-2 in the GNAC (2-7 overall), while the host Raiders drop to 2-6 (0-3 GNAC).

Sophomore Emily Salls (Springvale, Maine) scored the first two goals for Mount Ida, both in the first half, to send the Mustangs to the break ahead 2-1. She tied the game with an unassisted tally at 11:45 and then added her second of the day at 19:53 on a feed from sophomore Lexi Minicucci (Westfield, Mass.).

Minicucci would add an insurance goal at 43:05 in the second half to account for all the scoring in the game.

Sophomore Maykate Sweeney (Chicopee, Mass.) put the Raiders on the board just 1:05 into the contest as she scored an unassisted goal. It was Sweeney's third goal of the season.

Mount Ida sophomore Emily McConnell (Lowell, Mass.) stopped six of the seven attempts that she faced to earn her second victory of the season between the pipes.

Freshman Emily Foster (West Lebanon, N.H.) stopped four of seven shots she faced on net in defeat.

Mount Ida will return to New Hampshire for their next scheduled contest on Wednesday afternoon as they make the trip up to Henniker, N.H. for a 4pm non-conference contest with New England College.

Rivier will host Thomas College in a non-conference match up tomorrow afternoon at Raider Field. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
