PAXTON, Mass.— The Mount Ida College field hockey team suffered their second straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) defeat to the AMCATS of Anna Maria College on Thursday night by the final score of 3-0.
With today's setback, the Mustangs drop to 1-5 (0-2 GNAC) while Anna Maria improves to to 5-3 (1-0 GNAC) in GNAC play.
The Mustangs were led offensively by Lexi Minicucci (Westfield, Mass.) who launched six shots in the contest with one on goal. Sarah Hemstock (Northford, Conn.) fired three shots while seeing just one of those land on net.
The AMCATS scored in the second minute of the game and never looked back, adding additional tallies in the ninth and 38th minutes en route to the 3-0 shutout win. The AMCATS held a 19-9 advantage in shots and an 8-4 edge in penalty corners over the course of the game.
Only two of Mount Ida's nine shots were on-target today, as both starting goaltender Mary Kate Breen (Londonderry, N.H.) and reliever Bryanna Tobin (Deep River, Conn.) made one save each.
Eleven of Anna Maria's shots were on-goal, and Mount Ida netminder Emily McConnell (Lowell, Mass.) tallied eight saves in the complete-game effort.
The Mustangs will return to non-conference action this coming Monday when they travel to Wheelock College with faceoff set for 8:00 PM. Anna Maria is idle this weekend but returns to action on Tuesday, September 22nd for the final game of their three-game home stand against Clark University at 7:00 PM.
