Tom graduated from Mount Ida in 2004 with a Bachelor's Degree of Science in Business Administration with a major in Sport Management. He is the first two-sport captain to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, serving as captain of the Mustang lacrosse team for one year and as a four year starter and three-time captain of the football program. He received football's MVP award for four consecutive years and in 2002 was named the ECAC Northeast Defensive Player of the Week. In 2003, he was the recipient of the Gridiron  Club Golden Helmet award, and he was selected ot the Football Gazette All-East Region Third Team, ECAC Division III Northeast All-Star Second Team, and the New England Football Writers Division II/III All-New England Team.

Tom served in the United States Marine Corps with 2 combat deployments and continued his love for football as coach of the Marine Corps Battalion Football team for four years. In 2008, Tom was honored with the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and the Mount Ida College Award of Valor.
