NEWTON, Mass. – With just under two months until the 2014-15 athletic season gets underway, Mount Ida is excited to announce that the team schedules for all eight of its fall sports are now available online.
Three teams will kick off their seasons on August 29th with games on the road, including a men’s and women’s soccer doubleheader at Lesley University in nearby Cambridge. That same day, the Mustang’s field hockey program will play their first ever game at Becker College as they begin their inaugural year as an NCAA sport.
Saturday, August 30th belongs to Mount Ida women’s volleyball, which kick off their 2014 campaign by heading to Danbury, Connecticut for a tri-match featuring Brandeis and hosts Purchase State.
The opening weekend closes with the first games of the year in Mustang City, when men’s soccer hosts Regis College on Sunday, August 31st at 1:00 pm at Alumni Field. The Mustangs are fresh off of a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) quarterfinals appearance last season, which they opened up with a 1-0 win over the Pride in Weston.
Women’s Tennis also opens up on the road on Tuesday, September 2nd with a trip to Eastern Nazarene College at 3:30 pm.
For the fourth consecutive year, football will begin their slate of games under the lights against UMass Dartmouth, but this time it will be at Alumni Field in Mustang City on Friday night, September 5th. It’s sure to be an incredible atmosphere as the Mustangs try to duplicate their success against the Corsairs, who they staged a thrilling come-from-behind 21-20 victory over a year ago in Dartmouth.
Men’s and women’s cross country will get their seasons underway on Saturday, September 6th as they run at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Invitational in Buzzards Bay, Massachusetts. A busy day for the Mustangs, the 6th will also feature road games for field hockey (Nichols) and women’s tennis (Becker) and home contests for women’s volleyball (Daniel Webster and Wentworth) and women’s soccer (Regis).
Other notable games during the fall of 2014 include the debut of Mount Ida field hockey at Alumni Field, which will take place on September 17th, when they Mustangs host Wheelock at 7:00 pm. Men’s soccer has a trio of enticing games late in October, as they travel to Lasell and Norwich on either side of a home game against Saint Joseph’s (Maine), who the Mustangs stunned with a 2-0 defeat in Standish a year ago.
Women’s soccer gets to welcome in Norwich on September 27th for the rematch of an overtime thriller which saw Mount Ida prevail 2-1 late last season.
On October 18th, Mount Ida football will renew rivalries with Castleton State in an Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) game at Alumni Field at 1:00 pm.
Local rivals Lasell College will be the guests for women’s volleyball’s Senior Day, as the Mustangs and Lasers face off on October 22nd in the final regular season home game for Mount Ida.
