WAYLAND, Mass. – Now in its second year in its current format, the Mount Ida College Athletic Association (MICAA) Golf Tournament has continued to grow, and this year's event on June 3rd at Wayland Country Club featured a full course of golfers, and raised over $20,000 for Mustangs student-athletes.
The threat of bad weather held off for the 136 golfers who came out to play in the scramble tournament, a group that included alumni, parents, corporate sponsors, and friends of the College. Money from the registration, raffle, sponsorships and silent auctions go directly to support the 300 student-athletes, helping to fund their athletic gear, equipment, and trips to play in tournaments across the country.
Poli Mortgage Group, W.B. Mason and ARAMARK Dining generously contributed as Meal Sponsors for the tournament, which gave golfers an incredible barbecue lunch after their 18 holes. President Barry Brown and Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) president Sam Laferriere (Tewksbury, Mass.) addressed the group and assistant athletic director Katie Greene pulled prizes for the raffle, which included Red Sox tickets, an autographed New England Revolution jersey and the opportunity to design your own shoes.
The silent auction gave supporters the opportunity to win a stay on Cape Cod, a football autographed by Rob Gronkowski, and a top of the line golf bag and driver.
For the second year in a row, The NES GROUP/Rosen Family were the winners of the golf tournament with a score of 57. The women's longest drive prize went to Vice President for Advancement, Jill Wierbicki Abrahams and the men's longest drive prize went to Wayde Anders from Fun Enterprises, who was also a tournament sponsor. Both players received Callaway Bags that were donated by Barry and Ellen Shapiro Brown.
A big thanks to all the volunteers, and supporters who helped make the day's event possible!
