Mount Ida College men’s volleyball freshman libero/defensive specialist Jimmy Wessel (DeKalb, IL/DeKalb) collected his first ever honor by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) selected as Defensive Player-of-the-Week.  Wessel is also this week’s Mustang-of-the-Week named by the Mount Ida Sports Information department.  This is the first time Wessel has been recognized in any capacity for a weekly honor. 

Wessel led the Mustangs to a 1-1 overall record this past week with 16 digs in two matches good for 2.67 digs a game.  Against hosting non-league foe Lesley University, Wessel notched 10 digs in a 3-0 win and went on to record six digs in a 3-0 loss to #12 M.I.T. last Wednesday in Newton, Massachusetts.  Wessel leads the Mustangs this season with 53 digs in seven matches played averaging 2.21 digs per set.

Mount Ida men’s volleyball will travel to Daniel Webster College this Thursday evening with match time slated for 7:00 p.m.
