Monday, September 17, 2012 - Mount Ida College women’s soccer junior transfer and forward Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim/Newbury College) has been named this week’s Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women’s soccer Player-of-the-Week and has also been selected as Mustang-of-the-Week. This is the first time Tomaselli has been honored with either award this season.
Tomaselli enjoyed a stellar 15 point week for the Mustangs, netting seven goals and an assist to help Mount Ida post a pair of victories. In GNAC play vs. Anna Maria, the junior transfer tallied five goals in the 9-1 victory before adding two goals and an assist in a 7-1 win vs. Bay Path over the weekend.
The Mustangs improve to an overall record of 3-2-0 with a conference slate of 1-1 heading into a crucial match-up with GNAC rival and neighboring host Lasell College Tuesday afternoon with game time slated for 4:00 p.m.
Along with Tomaselli, Mount Ida College men's soccer freshman midfielder Carlos Martinez (Chelsea, MA/Chelsea) has been named to this week's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Weekly Honor Roll. This is the first time Martinez has been honored with the award this season.
Martinez enjoyed an outstanding week for the Mustangs, netting one goal and two assists for four points. Martinez recorded the game winning goal vs. visiting GNAC opponent Suffolk University and an assist vs. Albertus Magnus College and Saint Joseph's College (ME). Following his strong performance, Martinez netted the equalizer in the 50th minute vs. Regis College as well as the eventual game winning tally in the 58th minute to solidify the win for the Mustangs.
With Martinez's help, the Mustangs improve to an overall record of 2-3-1 with a conference slate of 1-2 heading into this weekend's fixture at cross town GNAC rival Lasell College with kickoff set for 12:00 p.m.
