BUNCH SELECTED AS ECFC/ECAC PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

BUNCH SELECTED AS ECFC/ECAC PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK

Mount Ida College junior running back and pre-season All-American selection Johrone Bunch (Meriden, CT/F.T. Maloney) has been named as the Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) and the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) co-offensive player of the week for his performance last week.

Bunch compiled a season best 340 yards rushing and three scores averaging 6.9 yards a carry in a dramatic 38-34 Eastern Collegiate Football Conference (ECFC) loss to hosting Castleton State College last Saturday.

This is the second time in as many years Bunch has surpassed 300 yards rushing against the Spartans.  In 2009, Bunch compiled 351 yards rushing and five touchdowns good for 9.4 yards per carry in a 39-7 victory over the Spartans.  The five touchdowns scored was a school record for scores in a game.

Bunch is six touchdowns away from Mount Ida all-time rushing touchdown leader Antwone Harris ’06 from tying the career record.  He is also 1,623 yard behind Harris from breaking the all-time record for rushing yards in a career.  Bunch compiled 1,613 total yards on the ground in 2009 and is well on his way this year adding a total of 603 yards rushing in four games.

The Mustangs will host ECFC opponent visiting Becker College this coming Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m.
