Mount Ida College women's basketball senior Cherie Parisi (South Attleboro, MA/Attleboro) has been selected as this week's Mustang-of-the-Week after consecutive outstanding individual performances in two Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) basketball contests. Parisi netted a season high 28 points paired with 13 rebounds this past Saturday in an 88-56 GNAC victory, the Mustangs first conference win of the season. This was her third double-double of the season and her 31st of her career. She also tallied a game high 22 points and 12 caroms in an 80-63 GNAC loss to hosting Norwich University Monday night in Northfield, Vermont.
So far this season Parisi is averaging 13.7 points per game, second among her teammates behind fellow senior Nicole Casimiro (Lee, NH/Oyster River) (14.2). She is also second in rebounds averaging 7.3 a game and has the best free throw shooting percentage for the Mustangs this year at .708.
Parisi ranks fourth in scoring, 13th in rebounding, 11th in free throw percentage, and sixth in offensive rebounds in the conference statistical categories for the year. Cherie is second all-time in the Mount Ida College women's basketball record books in points (1230) and rebounds (770), and is approaching the record for field goals made in a career with 469 behind alumnus Kristin Santos (477). She holds the record for free throws made in a career with 270.
Parisi was also recognized this week by the New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) selected to their weekly honor roll as the first women's basketball player at Mount Ida to receive this recognition.
Parisi was also selected to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) weekly honor roll for the third time this season.
The Mount Ida College women's basketball team will host Suffolk University this coming Thursday for more GNAC action starting at 6:00 p.m.
