Alison Koning '13, will return to the sidelines again this coming spring in her 3rd season as a volunteer assistant women's lacrosse coach under Head Coach Nicole Poli. Koning will also be returning to her administrative role within the Mount Ida athletic department in her 2nd year as the Asssitant to the Athletic Director.
Koning is the recipient of a two-year NCAA Ethnic Minority and Women Internship Grant, and joined the Mustang staff on July 27, 2015. She assists the athletic department with contest management, day to day operations, and purchasing, among other assigned tasks.
A double Mustang, Koning received her Master’s Degree in Sports Leadership in 2014 after graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree a year before. While at school, she was a student assistant with the athletic department, and she returned to the Mustangs after graduating to assist with game-day contest management and serve as an assistant women’s lacrosse coach.
Koning was active in the Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) as a student-athlete and received the Jacqueline Palmer Award for Leadership.
Koning had been active throughout the summer months over the last couple years while working for the Kristen Kjellman Pro Lacrosse Camp while coaching players between seven and eighteen years of age. Koning's main responsibilities included coaching the fundamental mechanics and skills to grow as a lacrosse player. Kjellman, was a USA National Team player as well as a World Champion.
Also the Field Director for the XCel Lacrosse women's league, Koning oversees over 130 players over a six week season throughout the summer.
A native of Carlisle, Mass., Koning was a three year member of the Mount Ida women’s lacrosse program and a two-year women’s soccer player for the Mustangs.
In 47 games played on the women’s lacrosse team, she picked up 108 ground balls, good for 5th in the Mustang record books, while her 46 caused turnovers is 6th all-time. Her 1157 minutes played in 2013 is the most for a Mustang in a single season, and in 2014 she scored career highs with seven goals and ten points. Koning scored six goals in two seasons on the women’s soccer team, including five goals and three assists in 16 games in 2012.
