Joseph Campbell enters his sixth year as the head coach of the Mount Ida College men’s soccer program and his third year as Associate Athletic Director after spending two years as Assistant Athletic Director.
A two-time Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Coach of the Year, Campbell has guided the Mustangs to semifinals appearances and ECAC Tournament selections in two of the last three years.
Coach Campbell was the former head coach for the Mount Ida women's soccer team for the past eight seasons before accepting the head coaching position with the men's program in November 2009.
After guiding the Mustangs from 2000-02, he returned to his native Ireland, where he played semi-professional soccer in the league of Ireland for Monaghan United during the 2003 campaign. Campbell rejoined the Mount Ida staff as an assistant coach on the women’s soccer team in 2004, and returned to the helm for the 2005 season.
Campbell coached Mount Ida to the North Atlantic Conference title in 2001. That same year, he was inducted into the College's Hall of Fame for the tremendous impact that he made on the soccer field as a Mustangs player. He played for Coach Steve D’Arcy, meriting All-New England First Team honors in 1993and 1994 and went on to earn his associate’s degree in exercise science in 1995.
Before joining Mount Ida’s coaching staff in 2000, Campbell served as the assistant men’s soccer coach at Lasell College for three years.
Campbell holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) “C” national license along with a NSCAA advanced national diploma. He has had numerous coaching and playing experiences at camps and clinics.
A graduate of Saint Kevin’s High School in Dublin, Ireland, Campbell participated in soccer and Gaelic football in his native country. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal studies from Framingham State College in 2006.
