Three Mustangs Named GNAC Men’s Soccer All-Conference
Nov 10, 2014

NEWTON, Mass. – A trio of Mount Ida men's soccer players were recognized by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) as members of the 2014 All-Conference Team after helping the Mustangs to a semifinal appearance in the GNAC tournament.

Junior midfielder Carlos Martinez (Chelsea, Mass.) was selected to the First Team, senior defender Peter Sliva (Glens Falls, N.Y.) was named to the Second Team, and senior striker Michael Templeton (Charlestown, N.H.) was voted to the Third Team by the conference head coaches.

Martinez, making his second straight All-Conference appearance, both as members of the First Team, scored six goals and five assists for 17 points on the year. He saved his best play for conference games, where he netted five goals, and his 13 conference points were third in the GNAC. His three game-winning goals all came against conference opponents, including a dramatic strike against Saint Joseph's Maine, an overtime winner at Rivier, and a two goal performance in a shutout win over Anna Maria.

Sliva and Templeton each make their first appearance on the All-Conference team in their senior seasons. Sliva finishes his career as one of the anchors of a Mount Ida defensive line that posted five shutouts and a goals against average of 1.39. Sliva also scored the decisive goal in a 1-0 shutout at Norwich, leading Mount Ida to their first ever win at Northfield and helping them clinch the fifth seed in the GNAC tournament.

Templeton, no stranger to the dramatic himself, opened the season by heading home the game-winning goal late in a 1-0 win over Lesley, and went on to score four times on the season, including twice in a conference draw with Suffolk after he was honored before the game during Senior Day festivities. Templeton ends his Mount Ida career with 14 goals, five of them game-winners.

Mount Ida also saw senior defender Dakota Howell (Mesa, Ariz.) and junior midfielder Luke Pugsley (Milton, Mass.) selected as members of the 2014 All-Tournament team, while Sliva was named to the Men's Soccer All-Sportsmanship team as well.
