WINTHROP, Mass. -- Senior goalkeeper Mat Pils (Monroe, Conn.) has yet to allow a goal through 180 minutes of play this season, and his work has earned him Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goalkeeper of the Week accolades.
The awards were announced on Monday afternoon from the GNAC office and Assistant Commissioner Michael Ghika.
Pils has led the Mustangs to a 2-0 start to their 2014 campaign. He made two saves to help secure a 1-0 victory at Lesley, in which fellow senior Michael Templeton (Charlestown, N.H.) converted a header with under ten minutes to play.
In Sunday's home opener against Regis, Pils made the only stop asked of him, snuffing out a scoring attempt to keep the game scoreless in the first half before two strikes inside of 56 minutes put the Mustangs on top for good.
The start to this season is nearly identical to that of last year's when Pils shutout both Regis and Lesley (0-0 draw with the Lynx) and earned this same award for the first week of play.
He would go on to record seven clean sheets a year ago and took home GNAC weekly honors on one other occasion.
Pils and the Mustangs will be on the road for their next game, a Thursday night affair in Bristol, R.I. against Roger Williams. Kick-off is set for 7:00 pm.
