NEWTON, Mass. -- Freshman Jamie Gassman (Middletown, Conn.) finished third overall in a 42-runner field at the Travis Fuller Invitational hosted by Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Saturday morning, leading the Mustangs to a fifth place team showing on the women's side.
With that performance, a new career best for the first year runner, Gassman was recognized as this week's Corvias Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Co-Rookie of the Week. Robyn Hageman (Westlake, Ohio), also a freshma, from Norwich, was named as the ROY alongside Gassman.
The Mustang women saw all five runners finish in the top 26, with Gabby Shapiro (Sharon, Mass.) grabbing 17th place in a time of 24:43 and Elizabeth Baker (Mendon, Mass.) taking 23rd overall in 26:29.
Sydney Bryk (Newbury, N.H.) and Samantha Laferriere (Tewksbury, Mass.) rounded out the Mount Ida scorers with 25th and 26th place showings.
Gassman and the Mustangs will be back in action this weekend at the Saint Joseph's (Me.) Invitational in Standish, Maine beginning at 11:00 AM.
