QUINCY, Mass. - The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team won the last two sets of their opening match against Eastern Nazarene College to earn a 3-2 victory in their non-conference tri-match on Saturday afternoon at the Lahue Physical Education Center. The Mustangs would eventually settle for a split of the day, falling in straight sets to Westfield State in the neutral site game of the afternoon.
Mount Ida 3, Eastern Nazarene 2
The Lions prevailed in the opening game 25-17 before the Mustangs rallied to narrowly win the second frame 25-23. Eastern Nazarene bounced back in the third set to regain a one-set advantage with a 25-23 decision.
Mount Ida rolled to a 25-11 victory in the fourth game and captured the decisive fifth set 15-8.
Freshman Alexis Bell (Salem, Conn.) had one of the most prolific setting performances in Mount Ida history, racking up 44 assists, and adding a game-high nine service aces, pacing the Mustangs to a 21-service ace performance.
Junior Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) posted 16 kills and eight digs, and Kristy Walton (Fairhaven, Mass.) had a double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs.
Molly Alkinburg (Port Deposit, Md.) added eleven kills, while Alysha Dunbar (Quincy, Mass.) had ten digs and five service aces and freshman Katherine Eastwood (Amityville, N.Y.) had a team-high 17 digs in the win.
Westfield State 3, Mount Ida 0
The Owls emerged with a 25-19, 25-15, 26-24 scoreline, despite eight kills apiece from Reidy and Walton. Bell managed to add 11 more assists to her season total, and Alkinburg had a team-high four service aces in defeat.
The Lions progress to 3-5 on the season while the Mustangs move to 5-5 overall and the Owls improve to 3-7.
Mount Ida continues non-conference play on Monday evening with an 8:00 pm match at Lesley.
