Mustangs Close out Non-Conference Schedule with Shutout Victory

Salem, Mass. -- Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) recorded 11 kills for the Mount Ida College Mustangs as they shutout the Vikings of Salem State University 3-0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-14) on Tuesday evening in non-conference women's volleyball action at Twohig Gymnasium. The Mustangs rise to 9-19 on the season while the Vikings' slide to a 4-15 record.

Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, Mass.) paced Mount Ida with 31 assists, while Reidy and Taylor Davis (Machiasport, Maine) manned the attack, combining for 20 kills. Molly Alkinburg (Port Deposit, Md.) contributed with seven kills in the Mustangs sweep.

Salem State's offense suffered due to some miscommunications, as they posted a measly -.055 kill percentage on the attack. Emily Peay (Lebanon, Conn.) led Salem State with nine kills.

The Mustangs outscored the Vikings 33-16 on the night, which was essential in Mount Ida's victory.

Mount Ida closes out their string of games on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Rivier for a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match. The Mustangs are set to faceoff against the Blue Jays of Saint Joseph's University (Conn.) at 1:00 p.m. before facing the host Raiders at 3:00.

The Vikings continue action when they host the Lancers of Worcester State University and the Fighting Scots of Gordon College in a tri-meet event on Saturday, November 1st at 11:00 a.m.
