Mount Ida Notches Come-From-Behind Win at Curry

MILTON, Mass. – After falling behind two sets to one in non-conference women's volleyball, visiting Mount Ida College edged Curry College in five closely-contested sets Thursday night in Milton for their second straight victory this week. Set scores were 25-21, 21-25, 18-25, 28-26 and 15-9. The Mustangs improved to 7-17 overall, while the Colonels dropped to 6-17 on the season.

In the first set, Mount Ida squeaked by the hosts, finishing off a back-and-forth set 25-21. In the second and third sets, Curry rallied from behind then held off the Mustangs, winning by four and seven points, respectively. In the fourth set, neither team built more than a four-point lead. The Mustangs eventually secured the set after snapping a 26-26 tie with points off an attack error and a service ace. Mount Ida broke out to a big lead in the final set, and then withstood a late six-point run by Curry.

Senior Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, Mass.) led the Mustangs by dishing out a match-high 42 assists, just one shy of the program record she tied earlier this month. Sophomore Molly Alkinburg (Port Deposit, Md.) and freshman Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) tied with a match-best 13 kills apiece. Reidy also added four service aces. Sophomore Lucianna Medici (Riverside, R.I.) recorded a match-high 19 digs, eclipsing her own personal best, which was 18, set earlier this year at UMass Dartmouth.

Curry was led by sophomore Nicole Grambley (No. Attleboro, Mass.), with a team best in kills (12) and digs (17). Classmate Makayla Hughes (Franklin, N.H.) recorded a personal best 21 assists while also adding four service aces.

Mount Ida returns to action on October 22, hosting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) rival Lasell College in a 6:00 p.m. contest. The Colonels resume play this Saturday, traveling to Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opponent Eastern Nazarene for an 11:00 a.m. showdown.
