STANDISH, Maine – In a tri-match that included the opener of Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play, Mount Ida women's volleyball suffered a pair of 3-0 defeats, first to Lesley University, and second to GNAC opponent and host Saint Joseph's College of Maine.
They Lynx (4-1) won each set in convincing fashion, using scores of 25-13, 25-4, and 25-16 to secure the non-conference victory.
Freshman Mary Kate Reidy (Agawam, Mass.) picked up four kills and a solo block for the Mustangs, while junior Taylor Davis (Machiasport, Maine) had three kills, four digs, and served Mount Ida's only service ace.
Junior libero Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, N.H.) had eleven digs to lead the Mustangs.
In the second game, Saint Joseph's improved to 4-5 (1-0 GNAC) with victories of 25-22, 25-16, 25-16.
Reidy, with seven kills, was the only Mustang to tally more than one point, and she also led the team with nine digs.
Koolman served six of Mount Ida's 13 service aces and had eight digs, as did senior Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, Mass.), who also served three aces.
Reidy, Nicole Batakis (E. Longmeadow, Mass.) and Molly Alkinburg (Port Deposit, Md.) were each responsible for solo blocks against the Monks.
Peixoto tallied a combined 23 assists between the two matches.
The Mustangs (3-6, 0-1 GNAC) will take just one day off and will be back home on Monday evening when they host Southern Vermont College at 6:00 pm.
