Mustangs Drop Non-Conference Match to Red-Hot Rams

NEWTON, Mass. – Framingham State collected their eleventh straight victory on Tuesday afternoon with a 3-0 victory against Mount Ida in a non-conference women's volleyball matchup at Mount Ida Athletic Center.

The Rams won by scores of 25-13, 25-20, and 25-13 to improve to 22-4 on the season, while Mount Ida drops to 3-24.

Freshman Kellie Schroeder (North Grafton, Mass.) led the Mustangs with six kills and also had five digs, while classmate Chevona Markel (Torrington, Conn.) dished out a game-high 13 assists.

Markel was spelled by fellow freshman Katelyn Wickert (Chesapeake, Va.) for the final set, and Wickert handed out seven assists in the third set.

The Rams were led offensively by Alycia Rackliffe (Feeding Hills, Mass.), who killed seven balls and had two of Framingham's ten service aces.

Three of those aces came from sophomore Danielle Girard (Tivoli, N.Y.), who served during a 9-0 run in the first set that gave the visitors a 22-10 advantage to blow the game open.

Game two was a closer affair, with the Mustangs staying within two points at 13-11 and 14-12 before Framingham State scored eight of the next ten points, helped by an ace from Julia Wan (South Deerfield, Mass.), who dug seven balls, recorded four kills and was in on a solo block.

Wan served Framingham to a 7-1 lead in the third set, and they never looked back, with kills by Rackliffe and Wan closing the game after Sara Malicka (Southington, Conn.) serving through the middle of the game and helping out with six digs.

Haley Paradis (Hampton, N.H.) had five kills for Mount Ida, as did senior Abbey Fedigan (New Fairfield, Conn.). Sophomore libero Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, N.H.) had a game-high ten digs for Mount Ida.

Girard had eight digs defensively for the Rams, while Andressa Fernandes (Framingham, Mass.) had six kills and five digs.

The Mustangs will play their final Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contests this weekend when they travel to Lasell. Mount Ida will take on the Lasers at 12:00 pm and then play Saint Joseph's (ME) at 2:00.

Framingham State will be at Babson on Saturday for a 1:00 pm non-conference game.
