PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Amidst one of the toughest stretches of their 2013 schedule, the Mount Ida College women's volleyball team dropped their final two games at this weekend's Johnson & Wales Invitational.
The Mustangs suffered 3-0 defeats at the hands of Wheaton, whom they met for the second time this week, and Middlebury, to fall to 2-12 on the year.
Wheaton 3, Mount Ida 0
The Lyons (6-5) used scores of 25-15, 25-13, 25-19 to beat the Mustangs for the second time in the last five days.
Sophomore Haley Paradis (Hampton, N.H.) had a team-high four kills and Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, Mass.) handed out ten assists.
Libero Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, N.H.) had four service aces and she and Paradis led the team with six digs apiece.
Taylor Mattok and Lindsay Tebbetts combined for seventeen kills for the Lyons and Page Gustofson and Deirdre Wilson both tallied double-digit assists, with Gustofson digging a team-high six balls.
Middlebury 3, Mount Ida 0
A stymie Middlebury team held Mount Ida to single-digit points in two games, winning 25-10, 25-8, 25-4 to improve to 4-0 on the season.
Freshman Kellie Schroeder (North Grafton, Mass.) made the most of her playing time, tallying three kills and a game-high 12 digs.
Molly Alkinburg (Port Deposit, Md.) was in on two kills and she and Schroeder each picked up a block in the losing effort.
Lizzy reed put down nine kills for the Panthers, and Hannah Blackburn's sixteen assists led a balanced passing attack for Middlebury. Blackburn also had five digs, a category which Middlebury was led by Katie Chamberlain, with 10.
The Mustangs will hit the road for a non-conference game at Lesley on Monday at 8:00 pm.
