Mount Ida Drops Pair of Four-Setters at Pride Invitational
WESTON, Mass. – The Mount Ida College women's volleyball team battled in both of their opening matches at the 2013 Regis Pride Invite, but fell to both the host Pride and to the Engineers of WPI in four sets.
 

Regis College 3, Mount Ida College 1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-19)

 

The Mustangs won their first set of the season but Regis fought back to win three straight sets to close out the match. Mount Ida was paced by six kills from Hillary Kostner (Corona, Calif.) and five kills from Abbey Fedigan (New Fairfield, Conn.). Nicole Batakis (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Haley Paradis (Hampton, N.H.) chipped in three kills apiece, while Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, Mass.) had two kills, an ace, and 22 assists. Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, N.H.) notched a game-high 26 digs, while Kostner had three service aces in the setback.

Sam Bliss (Framingham, Mass.) and Jackie Silver (West Hills, Calif.) posted seven kills apiece to help lead the hosts. Marilia Ramos (Chimbote, Peru) handed out 19 assists and added a pair of service aces in the win. Sara Gold (North Hollywood, Calif.) led the Pride defensively with 18 digs, while Kristina del Rey (Miami, Fla.) added seven digs, three blocks, three kills, and two service aces. Sara Casullo (Little Falls, N.Y.) added four kills and a team-best three service aces in the win.
 
 

WPI 3, Mount Ida College 1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-11, 25-19)

 

Mount Ida was led by the duo of Fedigan and Kostner, who combined for 14 kills in the losing effort. Peixoto paced the Mustangs with 23 assists, and also had nine digs. Koolman had a team-leading 11 digs to go along with one kill and one assist. Freshman Maryssa Dwyer (Quincy, Mass.) led all players with five service aces.  

Freshman Cassandra Tomerlin (La Quinta, Calif.) led the way for the Engineers with 16 kills, while senior Holly Ganser (Seward, Alaska) and Maddy Werth (Bedford, Mass.) chipped in with eight kills apiece. Tomerlin also paced her team with 11 digs to go along with two block assists. Freshman Carolina Meyer (Easton, Mass.) led all players with 32 assists, and also had two service aces and seven digs. Kenzie Whalen (Hollis, N.H.) pitched in for WPI with nine kills, two service aces, and a team-leading three blocks.  

 

The Mustangs will finish off their participation on Saturday in Day Two of the Regis Invitational, when they will battle MIT at 12:00 pm and Eastern Nazarene at 2:00 pm.
