Mount Ida College women's volleyball senior hitter Jennifer Ferreira (Shirley, MA/Ayer) totaled 13 kills and 13 digs to lead the Mustangs to a 3-0 volleyball win over the Cadets of Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Monday eveing in Northfield, Vermont by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-20.
With the loss, the Cadets fall to 8-11 overall and 3-5 in GNAC action, while the win boosts the visiting Mustangs to 10-12 overall and 5-3 in GNAC action.
Freshman middle hitter Trudy Goetchius (North Andover, MA/Lawrence Vocational Tech.) added 10 kills for the Mustangs. Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) dished out a match-high 19 assists, while Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, NH/Bedford) posted eight digs for the visitors.
The Cadets were led by Gabrielle Miller (Grove City, Ohio) with three kills and 10 assists. Alex Palmer (South Windsor, Conn.) and MaryRose Meany (Goshen, N.Y.) both also added three kills. Meany finished the evening with a match-high four blocks, while Jennette Chartrand (Postenkill, N.Y.) led the Cadets defense with 11 digs.
Mount Ida capitalized on 18.4 percent hitting while holding the Cadets to a negative attack percentage.
The Mustangs will have most of the week off and head back into GNAC action Saturday with a league tri-match against Rivier College and Simmons College in Nashua, New Hampshire starting at 10:00 a.m.
