WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL MAKES IT FIVE IN A ROW AT SALEM STATE

Saturday, October 6, 2012 (Salem, Massachusetts) - Under the direction of first year Head Coach Craig Martin, the Mount Ida College women's volleyball team notched their fifth straight win of the 2012 season with a 3-0 sweep over hosting non-league opponent Salem State University by scores of 25-18, 25-23 and 27-25 Saturday afternoon in Salem, Massachusetts. 

The Mustangs improve to an overall record of 7-10 holding a league standing 4-2 heading back into conference action immediately next week.   

Mount Ida was led by a balanced attack and had a team total of 42 kills to Salem's 29 kills. Senior Jennifer Ferreira (Shirley, MA/Ayer) led the Mustangs with 14 kills and nine digs. Freshman Trudy Goetchius (North Andover, MA/Lawrence Vocational Tech.) also had 12 kills on the afternoon.

The Vikings were led offensively by junior Jazmin Santos (Lawerence, MA), with a team high in kills and digs with 13 and 12 respectively. Freshman Morgan Rae Shambo (Rochester, NY) had a team high 23 assists on the afternoon.

Mount Ida resumes play on Monday as they travel to St. Joseph's of Maine in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up with game time slated for 1:00 p.m.
