Sunday, September 30, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - In the opening end of Sunday's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's volleyball tri-match, hosting Mount Ida College shutout visiting Albertus Magnus College winning 3-0 by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-20 Sunday morning at the Athletic Center in Newton, Massachusetts.
The Mustangs capture their second straight win improving to an overall record of 4-10 snatching their second league bid (2-2). The visitors fall to 6-7 for the 2012 season and remain winless in GNAC action at 0-4.
Senior hitter Jennifer Ferreira (Shirley, MA/Ayer) led the hosts offensively with 21 kills on 42 attempts with four errors also adding a team-high 14 digs. Freshman middle hitter Trudy Goetchius (North Andover, MA/Lawrence Voc. Tech.) added 12 kills and 11 digs along with a solo block while senior setter Julie Smith (Richmond, RI/Chariho) saw the bulk of the action running the offense with 39 kills. Mount Ida junior captain Emily Hutvagner (Beacon Falls, CT/Woodland Regional) recorded three aces respectively.
For the visitors, junior hitter Melissa Manning (Milford, CT/Foran) led the Falcons offensively with eight kills on 26 attempts along with 16 digs. Senior setter Maritza Rosemond (New Haven, CT/Career) dished out 12 assists adding 10 digs while freshman middle hitter Kelsey Pendagast (Shelton, CT/Shelton) registered four kills on 15 attempts.
