Behind a 22 kill performance from senior outside hitter Jennifer Ferreira (Shirley, MA/Ayer), the Mount Ida College women's volleyball team closed out a 3-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over visiting Lasell College Wednesday evening winning by scores of 17-25, 25-21, 23-25, 27-25 and 15-12 at Mount Ida Athletic Center. This is the second win for the Mustangs this season improving to 2-4 overall with a GNAC slate of 2-1. The visiting Lasers are still searching for their first win with an overall record of 0-8.
Along with a solid performance from Ferreira, Mount Ida sophomore hitter Shay Collins (Londonderry, NH/Londonderry) added 11 kills on 28 attempts with only two errors. Junior Abbey Fedigan (New Fairfield, CT/New Fairfield) chipped in six kills on 12 attempts with zero errors also adding two solo blocks. Sophomore setter Nicole Peixoto (New Bedford, MA/New Bedford) dished out a match-high 30 assists and four service aces respectively. Freshman defensive specialist Kelcey Koolman (Bedford, NH/Bedford) added 26 digs as well.
For the visitors, Lasell sophomore hitter Alexis Chappell (Springfield, MA/Sabis) recorded a team-high 13 kills on 48 attempts along with 17 digs and two block assists. Junior libero Marisa Visocchi (Whitman, MA/Whitman Hanson Regional) notched 17 digs and a service ace while freshman setter Alyssa Nahigian (Coventry, RI/Coventry) dished out 30 assists.
Mount Ida will travel to hosting GNAC foe Emerson College Saturday afternoon with game time slated for 11:00 a.m.
