The Mount Ida College women's tennis team captured their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over hosting Albertus Magnus College this past Saturday in a 9-0 blanking in New Haven, Connecticut. The Mustangs improve to 2-2 overall and a perfect 1-0 in conference competition.
The young mustangs jumped out to an early lead dominating all three doubles matches only dropping one game and taking an early 3-0 lead.
In singles freshman Emilie Cloutier (Lewiston, ME/Lewiston) improved her record to 4-0 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Senior Jessica Lindquist (Killingworth, CT/Haddam-Killingworth) returned to the number spot and posted a 6-4, 6-0 win. At number three singles freshman Veronica Williams (Tyngsboro, MA/Auburn) stormed to her first victory 6-0, 6-0. Sophomre Amy Warner (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) slid into the number four singles posting her first win 6-0, 6-0. Sophomore Melissa Smith (Warren, CT/Wamogo Regional) got off to a slow start but played two pressure games at 5-5 to capture the first set and then never looked back winning 6-0 in the second. Freshman Nanouma Joachin (Lynn, MA/Classical) captured another victory 6-2, 6-0 with ease.
Mount Ida women's tennis will host their first home match of the season this coming Wednesday in a GNAC match-up against visiting Simmons College starting at 3:00 p.m.
