Schojan's Hat-Trick Downs Mustangs in Non-Conference Action

Schojan's Hat-Trick Downs Mustangs in Non-Conference Action

MEDFORD, Mass. – Sunday afternoon action saw the Mount Ida College Mustangs fall to the host Fisher Falcons 5-1 in non-conference action at Medford High School. The Mustangs were unable to slow the offensive attack of the Falcons, led by senior Forward Julia Schojan (Rochester, N.Y.), who paced the hosts with a hat-trick.

From the opening whistle, it was clear the Mustangs defense would need to try and keep pace with the high-powered offensive attack of the Falcons. Schojan came into the game leading the team with 21 goals and was looking to add to her total. Mount Ida junior goalkeeper Kelsey Parking (Standish, Maine) was quickly tested between the pipes and was able to make a number of terrific saves, but Falcons forward Will Memeus (Everett, Mass.) was able to knock in a rebound for the first goal of the contest in the 18th minute.

Play slowed down for the following 20 minutes, until the Falcons were able to tack on another goal off the foot of Schojan. Mount Ida was able to rebound quickly before the end of the half when Skylah Caruso (Plainville, Mass.) beat Fisher goalkeeper Paige Ciavarro (Lynnfield, Mass.) for her second goal of the season. The teams would head into the intermissions with the Mustangs trailing 2-1.

Shortly after stepping back onto the field, the Falcons struck again with another cross from Memeus to Schojan to put the Falcons up 3-1. Mount Ida continued to fight throughout the second half, including a number of shots from sophomore Riley Soulliere (Leominster, Mass.). Unfortunately for the Mustangs, another two goals, including one from Schojan for a hat-trick, would give the Falcons a 5-1 victory.

After opening the season 3-0 against non-conference opponents, the Mustangs drop their first non-conference match of the season and fall to 6-8 and 3-7 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. Fisher moves to 7-3 overall.

The Mustangs have a busy week of play ahead of them with three games, which begins with non-conference foe Newbury College on Tuesday at 7:00pm. Fisher does not play again until Saturday, when they travel to SUNY Delhi for a 1:00pm start.
