Perry Nets Game Tying Goal, Lasers Topple Mustangs in Second Half

NEWTON, Mass. -- Sophomore Lacey Perry (Westport, Mass.) scored her third goal of the season to knot the score at 1-1 in the first half against the Lasers of Lasell College, but eventually fell to the local rival Lasers, 7-1, in GNAC action on Taylor Field.

The Lasers improve to 9-0-1 in league play and advance to 13-2-1 this season, while the Mustangs sink to 1-9 in the GNAC and 3-12 overall.

The game was closely contested in the opening 45 minutes despite a 23-1 advantage in shots from the home team. Sophomore Sabrina Morais (Arlington, Mass.) broke open the contest in the 16th minute, finishing a feed from classmate Emma Papile (Quincy, Mass.).

The Mustangs hung with the Lasers following the short setback, as Perry caught junior keeper Sarah LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) off her line while firing a shot past the keeper off the foot of junior Rachel Lambert who sent in a ball from midfield off a restart while knotting the score at one.

After the halftime break, ten minutes expired before Lasell ran away with the game on six unanswered markers. Junior Casey Meissner (Sandwich, Mass.) ignited the offensive charge for the Lasers in the 55thminute, finishing far-post on a helper from senior Devon Day (Hartland, Vt.).

Senior Bridget Makles (Newington, Conn.) and sophomore Gillian Campbell (Pittsfield, Mass.) both registered their first goals of the season, while Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) and Morgan Pinksten (Pelham, N.H.) figured into the scoring for the home team.

Three Lasers saw time in between the pipes, as LaClair earned the victory in 80 minutes played. Caitlin Greco (Higganum, Conn.) and Hayden Wheeler (Hubbardston, Mass.) each split the remaining time of relief in net and were not challenged by the Mustangs.

Mustangs freshman keeper AnnaMarie Seiler (Biddeford, Maine) had a tremendous performance in net with 24 total saves, a new career high for the rookie.

Both teams return to conference play on Saturday, October 22. The Lasers will head to Standish, Maine for the first half of a GNAC doubleheader against St. Joe's (Me.) at 12:00 p.m., while the Mustangs finish up the regular season at home against Emmanuel at 5:00 p.m.
