Falcons Soar Past Mustangs in GNAC Contest

NEWTON, Mass. -- Mount Ida sophomore Lacey Perry (Westport, Mass.) scored her second goal of the season in the second half on Wednesday afternoon but it proved not enough as the Mount Ida College women's soccer team fell to Albertus Magnus by a final score of 6-1.

With the setback, Mount Ida drops to 3-8 overall while falling to 1-5 in GNAC play. Meanwhile, Albertus breaks a two game losing skid and improves to 5-6-1 (3-2-1 GNAC).

Perry opened the second half at the 48:44 mark with a screamer from about 25 yards out after teammate and freshman Kyla Bragg (Sanford, Me.) took the ball away from an Albertus defender before finding Perry to cut into the Falcons lead.

Leading 5-0 at the break, the visiting Falcons saw Danielle Polvan (East Haven, Conn.) open up the scoring just 8:15 into the contest when she took a touch out and around a Mustang defender and beat Mount Ida keeper AnnaMarie Seiler (Biddeford, Me.) for the early 1-0 cushion.

Just over two minutes later, Falcon Angelina Piccirillo (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored her second tally of the year when she bent in a corner kick that snuck in near post while giving the visitors the 2-0 lead. Senior Liz Nagy (Meriden, Conn.) kept things going for Albertus when she poked a ball up and over the charging Seiler before Polvan struck again for her 7th tally of the year when she beat a green and white defender 1 v 1 and chipped the ball over Seiler.

Up 4-0, the Falcons' Taylor Rotella (Milford, Conn.) added to the lead before the break off a double assist from Liz Falcigno (Wallingford, Conn.) and Alexya Alves (Naugatuck, Conn.), taking the 5-0 advtanage into the half.

Following Perry's early marker in the opening minutes of the second half, both teams battled back and forth while the Mustangs nearly capitalized on a few different opportunities around the Falcon goal.

Albertus added a late tally in the 83rd minute when Amanda Montano (North Haven, Conn.) found the back of the net, beating Seiler on the floor back post.

The visitors outshot the Mustangs 25-4 in the GNAC bout, while also holding a 10-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Seiler made eight saves in the contest while Falcon starter Lexi Fenn (Oakville, Conn.) made just one and Ryan Clark (Milford, Conn.) and Cassidy Scofield (Shelton, Conn.) combined for one stop in relief of Fenn.

The Mustangs will be back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Providence, R.I. to take on Johnson and Wales with kickoff set for 2:30 PM. Albertus will return home on Saturday to face off against Rivier with that game slated to begin at 1:00.
