NEWTON, Mass. – Senior Libby Andreasen (Gorham, Maine) and freshman Mikayla Lovering (Colchester, Vt.) each scored their first collegiate goals as Mount Ida came from behind to beat Becker College 3-1 in a non-conference women's soccer game on Tuesday evening at Alumni Field.
Andreasen, a senior captain, finally got herself on the scoresheet for the first time in more than 50 games played, with a brilliant strike that would eventually be the game-winner in the 65th minute. Andreasen took the ball at the halfway line and curled it past Hawks keeper Jordyn Martel (Chicopee, Mass.), who made three saves.
Lovering scored two goals in the win, on either side of halftime. She knotted the game at one in the 37th minute when she took the ball on her own by three Hawk defenders and into the box while sending a bullet past Martel.
The visitors had taken the lead just two minutes before through sophomore Anja Russell (Cumberland, Maine), who scored her first goal of the season when she poked home a cross from senior Lauren Zaleski (Avon, Mass.).
Lovering added an insurance goal to complete her brace in the 84th minute, as she slid home a pass from Morgan Rzonca (Bristol, Conn.).
Freshman AnnaMarie Seiler (Biddeford, Maine) had a milestone night of her own, making six saves to earn her first collegiate victory between the pipes.
The Mustangs were outshot by Becker 17-12, including a 14-7 edge by the Hawks in the second half. Becker also had the only corner kick opportunity in the game, coming in the second half.
Mount Ida looks to capitalize on their momentum on Saturday when they return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a home game against Anna Maria at 3:00 pm.
Becker opens New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play on Saturday with a 12:00 pm game at Wheelock.
