WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Mount Ida College women's soccer team suffered their third straight Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) defeat on Saturday afternoon at the hands of the Bluejays of the University of Saint Joseph by a final score of 7-1.
USJ improves to 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the GNAC; Mount Ida is 2-5-4 and 0-3-2 in league play.
Tallman got the Blue Jays on the board with an unassisted 18-yard blast 3:01 into the game and Skoly knocked in a rebound for her first on the day at 5:47 for a quick 2-0 lead. Aquillo scored her first of the year at 18:50 when she put a shot in the lower right corner off a feed from Masayda for a 3-0 USJ advantage.
Mount Ida broke the USJ run at 24:05 when Libby Andreasen (Gorham, Me.) picked off an attempted USJ clear and fed Izzy Moody (Naugatuck, Conn.) for her team-leading seventh goal of the season.
Caruso scored her first two collegiate goals to close the first-half scoring as USJ led 5-1 at the break. In the 35th minute, she took a cross deep in the box from Sara Barnick (Watertown, Conn.) and found plenty of empty space on the left side and her second score was from 15 yards across the goalmouth, also to the left side, with 41 seconds remaining in the half.
Skoly scored her second goal after a header from Aquillo in the 67th minute and Masaya went to the ground to deliver a sliding kick for the final tally of the afternoon, with 37 seconds left to play.
USJ outshot Mount Ida 28-8 and have a 5-0 corner kick advantage. Kelsey Parkin (Standish, Maine) made 12 saves for Mount Ida and Melissa Dodge (Watertown, Conn.) made six stops for the Blue Jays.
Mount Ida returns to Connecticut on Wednesday afternoon October 3rd when they visit the Falcons of Albertus Magnus with game time set for 3:30 PM. USJ also hits the road at Johnson at Wales in a 4 PM GNAC contest in Providence, Rhode Island.
