Mustangs Pump In Six Goals in Second Half to Beat Wildcats

NEWTON, Mass. – Mount Ida College scored six times after halftime to break open a 1-0 game and secure a 7-0 win over visiting Wheelock College in non-conference women's soccer action on Thursday evening at Alumni Field.

Six different Mustangs scored goals, including two strikes from Alee Bonola (Windsor, Conn.), whose tally at 8:55 of the first half became the eventual game-winner. Bonola slotted past Wheelock sophomore Amarielis Morales (Dorchester, Mass.), who made 13 stops in the loss for the visitors, after a great ball played over the top from Heather Pollock (Middleton, Mass.).

Freshman Emily Oltmanns (Golden, Colo.) flicked in a ball off the foot of Hailey Serino (Northwood, N.H.) less than two minutes after halftime to double Mount Ida's lead and begin the opening of the floodgates.

Ten minutes later, Bonola scored her second goal of the game, and her fourth of the year, from ten yards out, and less than ten minutes later freshman Lacey Perry (Westport, Mass.) converted from a tough angle on the left side of the goal to put the Mustangs up 4-0.

Alex Lincoln (Stamford, Vt.) and Isabelle Moody (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored inside of the same minute, with each player assisting on the other player's score. Moody increased her team-high in goals to six with her strike at 61:37.

Mount Ida freshman Jan'e Junor (Bloomfield, Conn.) capped the scoring with her first collegiate goal at 70:52 when she converted a cross from sophomore Hannah Brackett (Voorheesville, N.Y.).

The Mustangs fired 37 shots in the game, including 20 of them on goal, and had a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Wildcats managed just three shots in the game, and did not put an attempt on target, as Mustang freshman Kelsey Parkin (Standish, Maine) earned her first collegiate win and Mount Ida's first shutout of the year.

Mount Ida returns to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play on Saturday afternoon when they host Johnson & Wales University at 3:00 PM, part of a double-header between the Mustangs and Wildcats that starts with men's soccer at 1:00 PM.

Wheelock (0-5) hosts Newbury on Saturday at 12:00 pm as they return to New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).
