Plenty to Go Around as Mustangs Topple Pine Manor

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Six different Mustangs scored goals as the Mount Ida College women's soccer team opened their 2015 season with a resounding 7-1 victory over host Pine Manor College in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.

The Mustangs got a pair of goals from Ashley Koll (Arlington, Mass.) and took a 5-0 lead before halftime, outshooting their opponents 29-6 in improving to 1-0 on the year.

Senior Isabelle Moody (Naugatuck, Conn.) started the barrage just four and a half minutes in on a feed from sophomore Morgan Rzonca (Bristol, Conn.).

Sophomore Alee Bonola (Windsor, Conn.) doubled the Mustang's advantage four minutes later and then freshman Emily Oltmanns (Golden, Col.) made her first mark as a Mustang in the 14th minute.

The Mustangs saw freshmen score two more goals before the end of the first half, coming less than two minutes apart. Nikki Laudon (Lee, Mass.) netted from a corner kick, of which Mount Ida had a 7-0 advantage, in the 37th minute, and Koll notched her first of the game on a rebound outside the 18 at 38:28.

Junior Hannah Brackett (Voorheesville, N.Y.) had a goal and an assist in the second half, feeding Koll's in the 52nd minute for her second of the game, which capped the scoring for Mount Ida.

The Gators got one back in the 64th minute when sophomore Cadejia Matthews-Austin scored her first of the year by sliding a break-away past Kelsey Parkin (Standish, Maine), who had come on to play goal at the start of the second half for starter Nickole Soto (Marlboro, Mass.).

Neither Parkin nor Soto made a stop in the game, while freshman Jesta Gilmore made 12 saves for Pine Manor (0-1).

Mount Ida will play their home opener on Thursday night when they host Curry College in a 7:00 pm game at Alumni Field.

Pine Manor hosts Becker this Saturday at 1:00 pm.
