Melchionno To Oversee Women's Soccer Program's Keepers

NEWTON, Mass. -- The Mount Ida College women’s soccer program is pleased to announce the hiring of Sean Melchionno as the assistant goal keeping coach for the 2014 season.  Sean will oversee the program’s goalies and serve as an assistant coach to Head Coach Greg Hagan.

Melchionno, who currently resides in nearby Canton, comes to Mount Ida from FCm Travel Solutions where he serves as a Corporate Air Product Analyst in Boston.  Melchionno has a deep soccer background as he played his four year collegiate career in goal at Springfield College while graduating in August 2012.  While at Springfield, Melchionno graduated summa cum laude with an overall GPA of 3.92.  With his stellar performance in the classroom, Melchionno was named to the NEWMAC All-Conference Academic Team while also being named the Springfield Men’s Soccer Scholar Athlete.

Aside from working with FCm Travel Solutions, Melchionno also works part time for the New England Revolution where he serves in the office of Game Day Soccer Operations.  Sean works closely with the Revolution front office in arranging visiting team’s hotel and food accommodations along with managing all aspects of hospitality for high profile clients such as the United States, Spanish, Brazilian, Portuguese, and Mexican national teams.  Sean has also dealt with high profile European clubs such as Manchester United and AC Milan.

“Sean’s collegiate soccer background was a huge plus in hiring Sean to oversee our keepers for the 2014 season and beyond.  His knowledge of the position and the game in general is ideal as Sean will become a very valuable asset to not only the team’s keepers, but also the program as a whole,” said Hagan, who is entering his third season on the Mustang sideline.
