Mustangs Fall to Lasers in GNAC Action, 5-2

NEWTON, Mass. -- The Mount Ida College women's soccer team fell to the Lasers of Lasell College on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 5-2 on Taylor Field. With the win Lasell improves to 9-0 in league play and 11-4 overall while the Mustangs drop to 2-6-1 in conference play and 3-11-1 overall.

Senior Bridget Lynch (Dover, N.H.) scored four goals, two in each half and Megan Cullen (Amesbury, Mass.) added a goal for Lasell as Molly Masiero (Richmond, Mass.) Erin Smith (Gorham, Me.) and Sarah Jones (Duxbury, Mass.) each tallied assists in the victory. Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, Mass.) who was recognized during a pregame Senior Day ceremony made three saves for Lasell to earn the victory in goal, and Caitlin Greco (Higganum, Conn.) notched a save in relief.

Alee Bonola (Windsor, Conn.) and Heather Pollock (Middleton, Mass.) each scored for Mount Ida, while junior Isabelle Moody (Naugatuck, Conn.) assisted on Bonola's 5th goal of the season. Mustang keeper Nickole Soto (Marlboro, Mass.) made four saves in the loss for the Mustangs.

Lynch wasted no time getting the Lasers on the board, making it a 1-0 score with an unassisted goal with a strike from the right side of the box in the 4thminute of play. Bonola tied the score at 1-1 for Mount Ida when she flicked a header over the top of Lasell keeper Pappalardo in the 22ndminute. Lynch scored her second of the match a few minutes later when she buried a cross from Smith, and Cullen scored a goal late in the half when she took a ball down the left flank past a pair of Mustang defenders and beat Soto to make it 3-1 for Lasell at the half.

Masiero and Lynch connected two minutes into the second half when Masiero found Lynch with a through ball that Lynch finished to give her a hat-trick, and the senior forward added the icing on the cake on senior day when she scored on a service from Sarah Jones for her fourth goal while making it a 5-1 lead for Lasell. Pollock scored for the Mustangs from outside the top of the 18 yard box with a strike just underneath the cross bar in the 89th minute to produce the final 5-2 score.

Lasell will head to St. Joseph's College of Maine on Tuesday October 22nd for a 3:30 p.m. kick-off against the Monks while Mount Ida will travel to Providence, R.I. to face Johnson and Wales on Wednesday with game time set for 5:30 p.m.
