Women’s Soccer Bested by Nichols on the Road

DUDLEY, Mass. – Freshman Alee Bonola (Windsor, Conn.) scored her team-high fourth goal of the year, but Mount Ida College dropped a 7-1 decision to Nichols College in non-conference women's soccer action on Thursday afternoon at the Nichols Soccer Field.

Meghan Dunn (Dudley, Mass.) recorded her first career hat-trick as the Bison (4-2-0) move to 5-1 all-time against the Mustangs. Mount Ida falls to 0-6-0 on the season.

Nichols got on the board in the 17th minute when a cross by junior Madison Catarius (Wareham, Mass.) hit off of a Mustang defender and trickled into the net.

Dunn scored her first goal just six minutes later, senior Elizabeth Coleman (West Roxbury, Mass.) passed the ball between two defenders to Dunn who then took two touches and shot it into the lower left side of the net.

Late in the first half, Coleman scored one of her own. Freshman Danielle Barry (Springfield, Mass.) crossed it over from the left side and into the center of the box where Coleman was able to put it past senior goaltender Nickole Soto (Marlboro, Mass.), who recorded seven saves in her first game of the season.

Barry added one of her own at the 44-minute mark when she fired in a shot that hit off the cross-bar and bounced down into the net to give the Bison a 4-0 lead heading into the half.

The Mustangs cut the lead to three early in the second-half when Bonola slotted by senior Sarah Whitestone (Dalton, Mass.), with sophomore defender Libby Andreasen (Gorham, Maine) picking up the assist.

Dunn extended the lead back to four goals when in the 51st minute she broke away from the defense, juked the goalie, and slid the ball into the net for her second goal of the game.

She picked up the hat trick just eight minutes later.

In the 70th minute, Coleman capped the scoring after pounding the cross sent in by freshman Rachel McLaren (Wilmington, Mass.) into the back of the net.

Whitestone moves to 3-0-0 on the year after recording five saves.

The Mustangs host Anna Maria Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in their second Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game of the year.
