The Mount Ida College women's soccer team finished the 2012 season with a 1-1 double overtime stalemate against hosting Framingham State University in non-league action Tuesday evening. The Mustangs close the season under first year Head Coach Greg Hagan at 4-11-2.
After a scoreless first half that saw the Rams outshoot the Mustangs 14-3, Mount Ida had a pair of chances to score first in the opening minutes of the second half. Just 30 seconds in junior Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, RI/Pilgrim) had a break away, but Framingham State goalkeeper Jess Anthony (Stoneham, MA) came off her line and made a sliding stop to keep the game scoreless. A few minutes later, senior Alison Koning (Carlise, MA/Concord-Carlisle) carried the ball down the right side and pulled Anthony off her line. Koning sent a shot on goal, but Anthony was able to recover and make the diving save.
Framingham State was finally able to get on the board in the 59th minute. Junior Kayla Austin (Winchester, MA) took a direct kick from 15 yards and her shot deflected of the Mustang wall and into the top corner for her 7th goal of the season and the 1-0 lead.
The game would remain 1-0 until the closing minutes as Mount Ida reserve goalkeeper Samantha Basler (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North) made seven saves in the frame to keep her team in striking distance. With 1:30 left in regulation, Koning sent a thru ball to Tomaselli pulling Anthony off her line. Tomaselli made a move to avoid the diving Anthony and placed a shot in the back of the net tying the game at 1-1.
The Rams had a chance to end the game in the opening minutes of the first overtime as Austin had a pair of shots from close range, but Basler came up with the big saves. The Mustangs only shot in the overtime came with 30 seconds left as freshman Isabelle Moody (Naugatuck, CT/Naugatuck) sent a direct kick on net, but Anthony made the save.
Framingham State once again had a pair of chance in the second overtime on shots from sophomore Marisa Parent (Revere, MA) and Austin, but Basler came through again with the stops.
The Rams outshot the Mustangs 37-9 in the game and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. Basler played the final 55 minutes in net for the Mustangs and made 16 saves, while Anthony finished with five saves for the Rams.
