Tuesday, September 25, 2012 (Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 double overtime Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss to host Emerson College Tuesday evening in Boston, Massachusetts. The Mustangs could not muster a score for the entire contest only registering seven shots on net while the Lions pounded 28 attempts for the night to aid in their victory.
Emerson's Christine White tallied the only score of the contest in the Emerson league win over Mount Ida. With the win, EC is now 5-1-2 on the year and 3-0-2 in conference play as Mount Ida drops to 3-5 overall and 1-4 in the GNAC.
The Lions opened up the game with the offense going to work as they peppered Mount Ida with 11 shots in the first 45 minutes of action. The Mustangs goalie, Samantha Basler (Plymouth, MA/Plymouth North) earned her keep though as she single-handedly kept Mount Ida in the game with six save in the first half alone.
Shutout in the first, EC came back again in the second with 10 more shots in the half, but couldn't seem to put them on target as the Mustangs made three saves to keep it 0-0 at the end of regulation.
With both teams pushing to their limits, the Emerson defense decided to step up as they didn't allow a shot to the Mustangs in overtime to give their offense a chance. It came in the second overtime as Alyssa Giannone sent a corner kick perfectly into the box that was flicked by Mollie Coyne only to see White finish the effort with a light tap in.
Mount Ida women's soccer will host league foe Simmons College Saturday evening on homecoming weekend with game time slated for 6:30 p.m.
