WOMEN'S SOCCER SHUTOUT BY LASELL 1-0

The Mount Ida College women's soccer team snapped a three game winning streak with a 1-0 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) loss to hosting rival and neighboring foe Lasell College Tuesday evening.  Mount Ida falls to 3-3-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference play.

Molly Fitzgerald (Haverhill, Mass.) scored the only goal of the match in the 60th minute to propell the Lasers to their fourth league win of the season while the Mustangs drop their second GNAC bid of 2012.

Lasell held a 17-5 edge in shots, and a 10-4 advantage in shots on goal, and both keepers made key saves to keep the contest close throughout. Leah Pappalardo (Whitman, Mass.) made four saves to collect her third clean sheet and her fifth win of the year for Lasell, and Samantha Basler (Plymouth, Mass.) stopped nine shots for the Mustangs, taking the loss.

Lasell opened the first half creating a couple of quality chances, but were unable to find the mark. The visitors settled in, and in the 12th minute Briana Tomaselli (Warwick, R.I.) tested Pappalardo who punched the ball over the bar keeping the two sides scoreless. The Lasers won the battle of possession in the first half, but the Mustangs managed another pair of quality opportunities on the counter attack.

The second half saw the hosts continue to produce spells of possession, and eventually broke through, when Bridget Lynch (Dover, N.H.) took a diagonal ball and crossed it to Fitzgerald who took a touch and knocked the ball into the side netting for the only goal of the match.

The Mustangs created a couple of dangerous opportunities, in the final ten minutes, but were unable to find a shot on goal that could equalize.

Mount Ida will return to action on Saturday September 22nd when they host Emmanuel College in a GNAC tilt.
