WOMEN'S SOCCER DROPS FOURTH STRAIGHT, FALL 5-0 TO RAMS

Sunday, October 8, 2011(Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College women's soccer team surrendered 29 shots to visiting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) member Suffolk University falling 5-0 in league play Saturday afternoon in Newton, Massachusetts. 

The Mustangs, who have dropped their past four bids all of which were in conference play, fall to an overall record of 2-10-0 with a league slate of 1-8.  The visitors improve to 5-6-0 for 2011 going 2-6-0 in GNAC competition.

Suffolk University senior forward Leslie Hayden (Ross, CA/Redwood) connected on four of the five scores for the Rams starting in the eighth minute on a cross from the base line by junior Kelsey Cavaretta (Marcellus, NY/Marcellus) for the 1-0 advantage.

Hayden collected her second goal of the contest on a well placed corner kick by sophomore Meghan McHale (Halifax, MA/Silver Lake Regional) that Hayden caroming into the net with her noggin making it 2-0 in favor of the visitors at the 18 minute mark.

Hayden notched her third of the game to convert the hat trick on a breakaway beating two defenders and the goal keeper poking a shot into the corner for the 3-0 lead right at the end of the first half.

Midway through the second stanza Hayden notched her final goal of the game to pull ahead 4-0 off another assist from McHale.  McHale blasted a clear from the Rams defensive end to a streaking Hayden.  Hayden collected the ball and fired a shot into the bottom right corner for the goal.

With four minutes to go in the contest the visitors converted the final score of the contest on an unassisted goal from senior Lauren Cameron (Kingston, Jamaica/Kent) blistering a shot off a rebound for the 5-0 GNAC victory.

Mount Ida goaltender, junior Devan Meeker (Bantam, CT/Litchfield) made 10 saves for the home team while Rams freshman goalkeeper Melissa Brouillette (Shelton, CT/Shelton) didn't see much action with two stops.

The Mustangs will travel to GNAC member Norwich University Monday afternoon with game time slated for 3:30 p.m.
