WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES THIRD STRAIGHT GNAC BID 1-0

Monday, October 1, 2011(Newton, Massachusetts) - The Mount Ida College women's soccer team outshot visiting Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) member Emerson College 14-13 but was unable to find the back of the net falling 1-0 Saturday afternoon in Newton, Massachusetts.

The Mustangs, who drop their third league loss in a row, played an even game with the Lions but could not find the net which has been a recurring theme this season.

The Mustangs fall to an overall record of 2-8 continuing to slide in GNAC play with a league slate of 1-6 while the visitors improve to 4-5-1 for 2011 evening at 3-3-1 in conference competition.

The only goal of the competition came in the 10th minute of play in the beginning of the first half on an impressive cross from the left side of the field by Lion senior Meghan Foehl (Cheshire, CT/Cheshire).  Freshman forward Christina Tontisakis (Ridgefield, CT/Ridgefield) flew into the box and caught the cross on a volley in the middle of the six yard box blasting a shot into the heart of the net for the 1-0 lead and eventually the victory.

Although Mount Ida had 14 shots they were only able to land four on net with not one opportunity that was too threatening to the Lions.  Emerson led the game in corner kicks up 8-2 as well.

Mount Ida goaltender, junior Devan Meeker (Bantam, CT/Litchfield), denied four Lion shots while Emerson keeper sophomore Marissa MacDonald (Winchester, MA/Winchester) added four saves as well.

The Mustangs will travel to GNAC member Rivier College Wednesday afternoon with game time slated for 5:00 p.m. while the visitors go home to host GNAC foe Albertus Magnus College starting at 1:00 p.m.
