WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO LYNX 4-0 SUNDAY AFTERNOON

The Mount Ida College women's soccer team dropped a 4-0 non-conference loss to hosting Lesley University Sunday afternoon in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  The Mustangs were only able to muster three shots on goal for the entire contest falling to 1-1 overall on the season.

Veronica Halen (San Diego, CA/Cathedral Catholic) scored twice for Lesley, which jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead in securing its first win of 2011.

A Mustangs handball in the keeper box led to a Halen penalty shot, which was denied by Mount Ida keeper Kerstin McLean (Preston, CT/Ledyard), but Halen converted on the rebound after her missed kick for the Lynx first goal at 13:23.

It stayed a 1-0 contest until the 30:00 mark, when fellow sophomore Jackee Sanchez (Santa Clarita, CA/Golden Valley) took a through ball from Alexis Giusti (Meridian, CA/Yuba City) and deposited it inside the right side of the net. Sanchez returned the favor less than six minutes later, at 35:40, with a beautiful cross on the ground from the left side to the freshman Giusti, who scored into the right corner of the net to put the Lynx ahead by the score of 3-0, which it remained through halftime.

Halen added her second of the game at 51:20, scoring into the right side of the net after a chest trap on a cross from senior Kelsey Fitzgerald (Upton, MA/Nipmuc), sending Lesley to its first victory of 2011, 4-0.

Lynx freshman keeper Emileigh Lloyd (Middletown, PA/Middletown) earned her first college shutout, stopping all three Mount Ida shots on goal. For the Mustangs, McLean made 11 saves as the Lynx outshot Mount Ida 22-3 overall.

The Mustangs will host non-conference Elms College Thursday afternoon starting at 3:30 p.m.
