WOMEN'S SOCCER TRAMPLED BY RAMS IN 5-0 GNAC LOSS

The Mount Ida College women's soccer team dropped their sixth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match-up of 2010 this past Saturday falling 5-0 to hosting Suffolk University.  The Mustangs fall to a 2-7-1 overall record and have yet to win a conference game (0-6-0) while the surging Rams improve to 6-2-1, 5-2 in conference competition.

Junior Leslie Hayden (Ross, Calif.) scored two goals and registered two assists to lead the Rams to their fifth win in GNAC play this season. Freshman Taylor Miranda (Smithtown, N.Y.) extended her goal-scoring streak to seven games as the freshman netted two more goals as she register her sixth multi-goal game of the season.

It took little time for the Rams to get on the board as Hayden netted the game's first goal five minutes in taking a pass from freshman Gabrielle Balestrier (Mohnton, Penn.) for the game's first strike.

Balestrier would score the Rams' next goal with eight minutes remaining in the first half to give Suffolk a 2-0 edge heading into the break. Freshman Meghan McHale (Halifax, Mass.) started the scoring play with a corner kick. After the kick was knocked down in front of the Mustangs' goal, Balestrier took the loose ball and put it in the net for the Rams.

Miranda would score her team-leading 13th and 14th goals of the season in the Suffolk half as the Rams built a 4-0 lead.

Hayden added her second tally off the game with five minutes remaining on another Suffolk corner kick as she took the ball in mid-air and put in the back of the net for her sixth goal of the year.

Senior Meghan Begins (Jericho, Vt.) had a busy day making 15 saves for the Mustangs while senior goalkeeper Emily Joyce (Easton, Mass.) needed to make only two saves in posting her first shutout of the year for the Rams.

Suffolk controlled much of the offensive tempo outshooting the Mustangs 29-3 in the game.
