The Mount Ida College women's soccer team dropped their fifth consecutive loss and their fourth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest falling 4-0 to hosting Johnson & Wales University in East Providence, Rhode Island Tuesday afternoon. The Mustangs fall to 1-5-1, 0-4-0 in the GNAC.
Johnson & Wales got on the board first when junior Samantha Reynolds (Plymouth, MA) fed a pass to fellow junior Katlyn Gerrish (North Stonington, CT). Gerrish then went on a breakaway and buried a shot into the lower left corner of the net to put the Wildcats up 1-0 at the 20:45 mark. JWU extended their lead to 2-0 in the 40th minute when Freshman Michelle Granuzzo (Hopewelll Jct, NY) tallied her first career goal with an assist to fellow rookie Jacqueline Hammell (Wall, NJ). Granuzzo and Hammell connected again at the 43:10 mark to give the Wildcats the 3-0 lead. JWU would take the three goal lead into halftime after an impressive 17-0 advantage in shots.
JWU controlled the action throughout the second half with Reynolds giving the squad the 4-0 lead with her unassisted tally at the 53:00 mark. The Wildcats held a commanding 28-3 lead in shots for the contest.
Senior Jennifer Hurley (Freeport, NY) and freshman Kara Collins (North Arlington, NJ) combined for the shut out in goal for Johnson & Wales while senior Meghan Begins (Jericho, VT/Jericho) made 10 stops in the loss for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs have the weekend off and will travel to GNAC foe St. Joseph's College (ME) next Tuesday starting at 4:00 p.m.
